Job Description
The Senior Advisor for Policy and Public Affairs is a recognized subject matter and policy expert at the state and national level for one or more of LPPI's core areas of existing or emerging research. Skilled professional with over 15 years of applied policy research experience, this role will lead strategy and capacity building to guide the institute in achieving long-range goals and programmatic activities on Latino policy issues ranging from civil rights, health access, housing, and climate change. These activities will reflect the teaching, research, and public service goals of the University of California. This position reports to the Faculty Director and works across organizational departments to achieve institutional goals. Guide Policy Agenda and Strategy: Leads the process for the development and implementation of the Institutes policy agenda. Directs and collaborates with the LPPI team on strategic planning, including mission, vision, strategy refinement, and leadership building activities. Works with staff to develop the design, marketing, and execution of LPPI branding. Develops and presents strategic vision to directors and leadership team. Collaborates with organization, including internal and external stakeholders (elected officials, policymakers, partner organizations, and civic leaders) to strengthen LPPI's research and policy agendas. Independently crafts policy strategy and planning, external relation engagement, and advisory board tenets. Public and External Affairs: Leverages the convening power of the nation's leading public research university to bring together key partners and stakeholders to amplify UCLA LPPI's research and data resources and identify new opportunities for collaboration. Connects with systems change leaders and elected officials to expand the reach and impact of LPPI's work. Represents LPPI in the public sphere, media, and events. Expands organizational capacity in government and public affairs through mentorship, guidance and relationship building with a robust network of policy and organizational leaders across the state and the nation. Applies high-level expertise to identify new research and funding areas, including designing and developing leadership and educational programming through collaboration with staff, faculty, and leadership. Programming may include credit and noncredit courses, short courses, contract courses, and specifically revenue generating programs.
Salary & Compensation

Qualifications
- 15+ years 15+ years of Policy experience or equivalent experience in conducting, leading, or synethesizing research relevant to Latino policy. Such experience should be associated with a well-established and re (Required)
- Extensive experience in building capacity, leadership, and policy acumen related to Latino policy among diverse university constituents including staff, students, and faculty. (Required)
- A recognized subject matter and policy expert at the state and national level for one or more of LPPIs core areas of existing or emerging research, including: health, climate, economic mobility, entrepreneurship, and/or representation. (Required)
- Proven track record of legislative advocacy in front of municipal, state, and federal government bodies, both orally and in writing. (Required)
- Demonstrated capacity to organize coalitions composed of diverse community partners to unite and create impactful policy change resulting in better outcomes for underrepresented communities. (Required)
- Serves as a representative for LPPI in external meetings and events with research organizations, community organizations, government agencies, and similar institutions. Ability to identify, develop, and integrate external advisors to champion the organization. (Required)
- Extensive history of media engagement across print, radio, and broadcast that drives data- informed narrative. Ability to produce and deliver presentations to diverse audiences and represent the organization in multiple spheres. (Required)
- Advanced interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with actors within the organization and across the university, Experience identifying and integrating external advisors to champion an organization. (Required)
- Participates in cross-functional teams to solve complex organizational issues that may impact programmatic activities. Regularly assesses the LPPI's effectiveness and recommends changes to achieve maximum outcomes. (Required)
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s degree in good academic standing from an accredited college or university (Required) And
- Bachelor's Degree Masters degree in good academic standing from an accredited college or university. (Required) And
- Other Type of Degree An advanced degree in public policy, economics, sociology, political science or a related field; or more than 15 years of experience in leading policy change activities at a state or national level. (Preferred)
