Senator Tim Sheehy seeks to hire a proactive, resourceful individual responsible for overseeing all communications for the senator’s office and managing the communications team. Your insights and strategic mindset will help set expectations for crafting timely and informative content about the senator’s legislative agenda. Applicants must have substantial experience working with national television and print media outlets, crafting press releases, and creating a media strategy. 


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Craft and implement the overall communications strategy.
  • Write for various media formats, including press releases, op-eds, talking points, newsletters, speeches, and social media.
  • Serve as an on-the-record spokesperson for the senator; develop and oversee all communications for the senator’s office; and manage the communications team.
  • Manage office website, social media, and other digital content
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, long-term communications plan utilizing multi-channel communications.
  • Advise the senator on communications and messaging strategy to convey the senator’s priorities and achievements in state and national media.
  • Write and edit speeches, op-eds, and news releases.
  • Plan, organize, and implement national and local media strategies that reflect the office’s legislative priorities.
  • Prepare the senator for interviews, press conferences, and events. Pitch stories and place columns, leveraging social media platforms for maximum press exposure.
  • Monitor news of interest to the office.
  • Provide messaging guidance to staff.
  • Maintain strong existing relationships with state and national press corps.
  • Travel with the senator regionally and internationally as necessary.


Preferred Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience in communications or public relations.
  • A degree in communications or a related field of study is preferred.
  • Prior experience on the Hill, in an administration or political campaign.
  • Demonstrate success in high-level and detailed organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate creative use of media.
  • Interpersonal skills that value friendliness, collaboration, and creativity.
  • Experience speaking on the record with state and national press.
