What You’ll Do

  • Help improve and sustain CNBC’s coverage of politics, policy and how Washington interacts with Wall Street.
  • Edit breaking news as it happens and work closely with the reporter to move fast, accurate copy as stories unfold.
  • Help reporters identify and sharpen business angles on traditional political subjects.
  • Write headlines and format stories with an eye to SEO
  • Help plan future coverage on a rolling basis and maintain a calendar of political events, hearings, cases and deadlines.

  • Work in a CNBC bureau in Washington, DC or in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. with a hybrid in-office schedule.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • At least 5 years’ experience writing and reporting about politics for a business publication, or about business for a politics focused outlet.
  • A firm understanding of web publishing standards and journalistic ethics.

  • Broad knowledge of the political arena, including the elected officials, regulators and policymakers who shape Washington's approach to Wall Street and Main Street.
  • Fluency with the public records we use – how to read SEC filings, lobbying reports, campaign finance disclosures, nonprofit 990s, legal filings etc.
  • A deep understanding of the political calendar and the markets calendar, and a willingness to work late when news is breaking late.

You’ll Stand Out With

  • Clips of strongly reported, well written stories on politics, policy, campaigns, lobbying and legislation.
  • Fresh ideas about how to better package business/politics reporting and how to engage new audiences.
