PUBLIC AFFAIRS COORDINATOR
Basic Functions:
The Public Affairs Coordinator is responsible for local governmental affairs activities and events in support of the real estate industry, public outreach reinforcing REALTORS®’ value, professional standards administration, and association governance administrative support. This position includes coordination with both the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and the Florida REALTORS® association.
Principal Accountability:
Under the guidance and direction of the Chief Communications Officer (CCO), the employee is responsible for the following:
1. Committee Support: Serves as staff liaison to several committees, including Governmental Affairs, REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Fundraising, Community Affairs, RPAC Golf, and Equal Opportunity. Works with the chairs to set agendas, record minutes, invite guest speakers, and educate the committees. Works with the committees to identify issue priorities, action strategies, and fundraising opportunities. Updates committees on federal and state collaborative efforts. Works with the RPAC Committee to develop a plan for reaching RPAC investment goals and assists with executing the plan in compliance with state and federal laws. Works with the RPAC and Governmental Affairs committees to identify candidates for support and funding.
2. Event Coordination: Responsible for planning, scheduling, marketing, and managing events, including RPAC fundraisers (e.g., golf tournament, chili cookoff), community fundraising events (e.g., Habitat for Humanity 5K), association leadership events, political candidate screenings, and public outreach workshops.
3. Advocacy: Based on issue priorities, assists with advocacy efforts on behalf of the association on a local level. Works with lawmakers and regulators to monitor issues and educate them on association positions. Assists Key Contacts in relationship-building with elected officials.
4. National/State Connection: Collaborates with NAR on both federal candidates and issues. Collaborates with Florida REALTORS® on both state candidates and issues.
5. REALTOR® Party Efforts: Supports calls for action. Writes grants to utilize REALTOR® Party initiatives. Encourages participation in the Broker Involvement program and uses the Land Use Initiative to review local ordinances.
6. Coalitions: Builds local relationships to assist in furthering issue priorities.
7. Professional Standards Administration: Acts as the association’s NAR Professional Standards Administrator, and serves as liaison to the Grievance and Professional
Standards committees.
8. Association Governance Support: Functions as the main administrative support for the
Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
9. Education: Writes articles for the newsletters and blog, and uses other communications vehicles, including social media, to educate the association membership about advocacy efforts and supported candidates.
10. Outreach: Utilizes social media channels for public outreach to support and promote the REALTOR® brand. Works with the CCO on strategies for public outreach, working in concert with the association’s public relations campaign. Coordinates with the CEO to secure earned media for advocacy-related issues.
11. Works with the CEO on budgets for governmental affairs and related activities. Maintains department files and serves as key contact for association staff relating to governmental affairs activities.
12. Core Standards: Assists the CEO to ensure related NAR Core Standards are achieved annually.
13. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Governmental affairs, advocacy, or marketing experience preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking. Must be able to effectively interact with members, staff, and external contacts.
- Computer literate within a Windows-based environment, and proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of social networks, including search engine optimization and continually increasing engagement.
- Strong grasp of current business technologies and ability to learn new applications and workflows.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of meeting planning and ability to coordinate, organize, and evaluate meetings.
- Demonstrated business judgement and ability to develop and follow a budget.
- Able to set up, test, and troubleshoot audio-visual equipment and streaming platforms (e.g., Cisco Webex, Facebook Live).
- Able to create and edit content for various communication channels, including website, email, social media, presentations, brochures, and other marketing materials.
- Experience using Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud tools is preferred.
- Able to write, proofread, and edit the written word in various formats for various audiences.
- Must demonstrate effective customer service skills: helpful, cheerful, and knowledgeable when dealing with the membership and public; able to direct questions through proper channels; and capable of maintaining a comfortable and personable relationship with all types of people.
- Able to develop and implement a successful marketing plan.
- Able to perform accurately in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

- Must be creative.
- Able to work hours as noted in the Policy manual. There will be some evening and weekend activities. Some travel is required.

Level of Authority:
There are no supervisory responsibilities. Work independently and assist other staff when needed.
Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to maintain active customer and employee communication; access, input, and retrieve information from the computer system; and enter alpha-numeric data into a computerized system, often while listening on the telephone. May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
