The Team You’ll Work With:
The Mayor’s Office of Policy and Planning, within the office of the First Deputy Mayor, manages policy
development and innovation priorities in key areas of Mayor Eric Adams' wide-ranging policy and
planning portfolio. The office oversees the Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity and implementation
of major action plans including recommendations from the “New” New York Plan and Get Stuff Built. In
addition, the office leads negotiations for the City’s Project Labor Agreements on behalf of the City and
develops new policy proposals under the direction of the Mayor and First Deputy Mayor such as the first
expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit in 20 years and the development of new procurement
methods for the City.

The Problems You’ll Solve:
The Policy Advisor will serve on the policy team as part of the Mayor’s Office of Policy and Planning and

will support development of and advising on cross-cutting Mayoral priorities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with the Senior Policy Advisor, Policy Director, and Chief Policy and Innovation Officer to
advise the Mayor, First Deputy Mayor, and senior City Hall leadership on the strategic direction
of long-term policy for the City of New York;
  • Supporting an evidence-based approach to policy-making by assessing the quality of research
supporting various potential policy approaches;
  • Managing policy initiatives day-to-day, determining key touchpoints, and keeping leadership
apprised of developments and decisions needed;


  • Preparing briefings for key stakeholders and making sure to appropriately communicate
pertinent and sensitive information
  • Tracking project-related documents including schedules, project plans, presentations, meeting
agendas, minutes, and status reports;
  • Assessing initiatives nationwide to identify best practices and potential models;
  • Representing the Mayor’s Office of Policy and Planning at meetings with stakeholders, staff, and
internal and external committees, etc., to develop and sustain positive relationships and
networks, gather information, opinions and attitudes, identify stakeholder needs, provide
interpretation and clarification, develop response options, and generate cooperation and buy-in
to policy initiatives;
  • Analyzing and make recommendations on special projects that raise issues and/or concerns.

About You

  • You have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and 2+ years experience working in
policy, planning, and/or government; or a master’s degree in business, public administration,
economics, public policy or related fields with 1+ years of related work experience
  • You have research, strategic planning, and presentation skills;
  • You have the ability to operate independently with excellent time management skills and
confirmed ability to deliver on multiple, competing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • You have the ability to effectively interact with people and partners across all levels and sectors;
  • You are solutions-oriented and have proven ability to follow through on complex projects from
idea to implementation
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex
technical information into clear and compelling presentations for an array of audiences.
  • You are organized and detail-oriented; able to track and analyze data, spot trends and juggle
multiple projects at the same time;
  • Curious about urban challenges and a belief in government’s ability to improve the lives of New
Yorkers;
  • Proven commitment to equity and some management experience preferred

Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary,
equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is
$70,000 - $75,000. Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and
expertise, and other factors.
