Social Media Specialist
Reports To: Executive Director

Organization Overview:
Restore the Delta works in the areas of public education, program and policy development, and outreach so that all Californians recognize the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta as part of California’s natural heritage, deserving of restoration. We interface with local, state and federal agencies to advance this vision.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a creative and motivated Part-Time Social Media Specialist to join our team. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role is critical in expanding our digital presence, engaging our audience, and supporting our mission to ensure the health of the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary and Delta communities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social media management and graphic design, with a passion for environmental justice. This part-time position has the potential to transition into a full-time role based on performance and organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Social Media Strategy & Management:
- Assist in developing and executing social media strategies that align with the organization's mission and goals.
- Manage social media accounts on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others.
- Create and maintain a social media content calendar, ensuring regular, engaging, and timely posts.
- Content Creation & Graphic Design:
- Design eye-catching graphics, infographics, and other digital content to support our social media campaigns and initiatives.
- Write compelling social media posts that resonate with our target audience and reflect our organization's voice.
- Community Engagement:
- Engage with our online community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a thoughtful and timely manner.
- Build relationships with followers, influencers, and partner organizations to enhance our social media presence.
- Analytics & Reporting:
- Monitor social media metrics to track the effectiveness of campaigns and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive Director on social media performance.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends and best practices to continually refine strategies.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with the Executive Director to ensure social media activities align with broader organizational goals.
- Support other digital marketing and communication efforts as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1-3 years of experience in social media management.
- Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other relevant tools.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent time management and critical thinking skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Work independently, be computer literate, and possess the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- A love of the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary, rivers, healthy waterways.
- A commitment to economic, environmental, and social justice.
- A commitment to following sound science methodology to identify, track, and alleviate environmental problems.
Additional Information:
- This is a part-time position, with an estimated 20-25 hour commitment per week.
- Hourly scale of $23-25 per hour. Renegotiable after completing one year of service. Accrued paid vacation and sick time; state and federal holidays paid. We help support employees experiencing greater medical emergencies on an as-need basis.
- Potential for Full-Time Transition: Based on performance and the evolving needs of the organization, this role has the potential to grow into a full-time position.
