Summary

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is in the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a national museum for the study and exhibition of African American history and culture.


Duties


The Social Media Content Specialist is responsible for facilitating content development and approval processes in accordance with established guidelines while supporting strategy implementation to engage audiences through social media.


In this position, you will:


research, write, edit, publish, and monitor social media content across platforms that builds meaningful connections with audiences encouraging engagement with the museum’s collections, exhibitions, programming, educational initiatives, web content, and the Searchable Museum.

implement testing and recommend adjustments to content towards engaging and educating online audiences while fostering dialogue and influencing engagement across content types, cultural moments, campaigns and historical commemorations.

educate colleagues across the museum about social media, how it’s best used for maximum impact and share recommendations for adoption that will leverage social media to accomplish museum goals.


identify ways to empower audiences to contribute to a national dialogue on African American history and culture leveraging micro moments, annual commemorations, and historical milestones that will encourage reflection and discussion connecting to the museum’s collection, programming and initiatives.
