Environmental Policy Counsel

Summary

National manufacturing trade association seeks an environmental attorney familiar with federal and state regulatory and legislative processes to work on chemicals management and air quality issues.

About ACA

ACA is a voluntary, nonprofit organization working to advance the needs of the paint and coatings industry and the professionals who work in it. Through advocacy of the industry and its positions on legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues at the federal, state and local levels, it acts as an effective ally ensuring that the industry is represented and fairly considered. The association focuses on advancements in science and technology through its technical conferences and journals, and offers essential business information to members through its publications, surveys, and business programs.

Responsibilities

Knowledge of and experience with laws and regulations relevant to chemicals management and air quality. This position will be part of a team to advocate on behalf of reasonable laws and regulations at the state and federal level. A successful candidate will be responsible for management of ACA-led industry committees and working with industry professionals to develop advocacy strategies. The ability to travel is essential. The work will include regulatory and policy analysis, communication with stakeholders and agencies, and development of advocacy strategies for potential Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) or state chemicals management issues as well as air quality issues. Requisite knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state environmental and health regulations, and communicate to non-lawyers is also essential. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Candidate should have 2 - 5 years' experience and be admitted to the practice of law in at least one jurisdiction.
  • Prefers experience with regulatory and/or policy advocacy at the local, state or federal level.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to draft well organized, meaningful analyses of laws and regulations as well as comment letters and policy statements.
  • Candidate should be well-versed in public speaking and able to testify accordingly before regulatory agencies or legislative bodies.
  • Project management skills are helpful as candidate must also be able to manage industry committees.

Location and Travel

This position is located at ACA headquarters in Washington, DC and will operate within a hybrid work environment (working both onsite and remotely). This position will be expected to travel for work within the US.

Employment, Salary and Benefits

This is a full time, regular position. Salary is dependent on experience, but on estimate can range from $96,000 to $120,000.
