America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) seeks a highly motivated, organized and skilled individual to join our office as Director, Legal Services and Board Relations, to support APTS’s legal, regulatory, governance and corporate affairs work.  


America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) is a non-profit (501)(c)(3) membership organization with a mission of ensuring a strong and financially sound public television system and helping its member stations provide essential public services in education, public safety and civic leadership to the American people. 


The position will report directly to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. 


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Coordinating virtual and in-person meetings of the board, board committees, and advisory groups, as well as other legal and corporate governance meetings and webinars, including the coordination of schedules, logistics, agendas and materials.
  • Reviewing, drafting, revising and finalizing contracts, corporate resolutions, minutes, agendas, board materials, other legal and corporate documents, and other written materials, managing the approval and execution of contracts, and performing other general paralegal duties, all under attorney supervision.
  • Providing paralegal and administrative support for other work of the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, including work on regulatory, policy, employment, trademark and other legal matters.
  • Facilitating the board elections process in collaboration with the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary.
  • Maintaining and managing legal, board, employment and other corporate records, and managing and updating the legal, regulatory issues and employment sections of the organization’s website.
  • Facilitating performance review process and other employment processes.
  • Conducting oral and written communications with board members, member stations, public broadcasting industry representatives, federal agencies and offices, and other organization staff.
  • Assisting with the recruitment, hiring and onboarding process for APTS personnel, including full-time and temporary employees and interns.
  • Assisting with maintaining, updating and providing training related to the organization’s policies, procedures and employment handbook.
  • Assisting the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and others with special projects, research tasks and administrative support as requested. 


Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required. A minimum of 7+ years’ experience as a board liaison, paralegal, or legal assistant in a company, law firm, or government agency is required.


 Skills and experience integral to the position include:

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Strong research, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite and virtual meeting software.
  • Comfort with the use of a variety of technological tools in the workplace.
  • Experience with data and document management.
  •  Attention to detail.
  • Collaborative working style.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.


 Desired experience includes:

  • Experience with updating websites and electronic mass mailing systems.


The Director, Legal Services and Board Relations position is a regular full-time exempt position. APTS employees are currently working on a hybrid schedule with scheduled time in the office every week. The position also requires in-person attendance at in-person board meetings and APTS’s annual Public Media Summit.
