Job Purpose
The Government and Industry Relations {GIR) Division serves as a conduit to the government to ensure Honda's voice is heard in our nation's capital and in state legislatures. Key responsibilities include shaping state and federal policies that impact Honda's business in the U.S. Seeking opportunities to support and advocate for social policies that are consistent with Honda's fundamental beliefs, while strengthening relationships with diverse political organizations. This is a business-critical function as the government is currently shaping policy surrounding new and emerging connected, automated, shared and electrified technologies.
Key Accountabilities
Policy Development and Advocacy
  • Working with the Manager, develop effective policy materials to support Honda's advocacy efforts
  • Draft communications and work closely with internal stakeholders and trade associations to assist with the development and execution of advocacy tactics for key policy issues
  • Track industry trade associations and media to find opportunities to promote Honda's positions
  • Maintain and engage with key industry and political organizations to strengthen relationships
  • Support execution and implementation of policy-related communications to effectively promote Honda's position to policymakers in state and federal government.
Grassroots Program Management
  • Maintain Honda's grassroots database, including segmentation and templating
  • Research and Implement measures for sustainable growth for the grassroots program
  • Draft educational grassroots communications and develop and employ tactics to tangibly increase Honda grassroots advocates using digital advocacy tools
  • Add demonstrable value to budding grassroots advocacy program, developing robust program resources and implementing techniques to increase advocate growth.
Communication, Brand Development, and Analysis
  • Grow reach of Honda in America website and social channels, ensuring fresh, current content for both platforms that is tailored to a policymaker audience vet consistent with the corporate brand image
  • Analyze communication channel effectiveness and suggest measures for audience growth and engagement
  • Assist with the development and execution of annual Honda in America economic impact report
  • Assist with development and execution of strategies to solidify Honda in America's digital presence and grow the brand's following and reputation among policymakers and policy influencers.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications
BA/BS Degree in Business, Political Science, Communications, or similar degree; or equivalent experience
    Minimum Experience
    • 5-7 years of experience in a policy or communications-related role requiring strong analytical, communications, people, organizational, and project management skills
    • Congressional staff and trade association experience a plus
    • Knowledge of auto industry a plus
    Other Job-Specific Skills
    • Effective communication skills on policy issues
    • Digital communication skills – must be able to quickly learn and expertly navigate a variety of digital applications, from social media tools to content management systems and internal databases.
    • Knowledge of advocacy tools, including grassroots
    • Strong presentation development skills
    • Superb attention to detail and strong organizational skills
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams)
    • Experience with graphic design tools a plus (Illustrator, Photoshop)
