The PA Education Association (PAEA) is looking for you: a creative, driven professional to join our team as a Manager, State Advocacy & External Affairs.

The Manager, State Advocacy and External Affairs role is tasked with expanding PAEA’s impact on both state legislation and external partnerships to advance the interests of member programs. The state advocacy component of the position will be focused on the development of resources such as model state legislation and advocacy support materials as well as relationships with PA state chapters to secure positive changes in state law for programs.

In addition to expanding PAEA’s state advocacy portfolio, this position is also responsible for supporting and developing PAEA’s relationships with external stakeholders, primarily at the national level. The Manager will be responsible for outreach to provider organizations, patient advocacy groups, and other bodies to identify opportunities, such as educational webinars to promote clinical precepting, to support the needs of PAEA members.

Specific Responsibilities:

Build relationships with the leaders of PA state chapters and their legislative committees to advance legislative priorities benefiting PA programs, faculty, and students

  • Collaborate with AAPA on the development of model state legislation in support of PA education
  • Organize webinars with national stakeholder organizations to expand clinical rotation opportunities for PA programs
  • Facilitate nominations for PA faculty members to national stakeholder organizations
  • Partner with Government Relations team members on the execution of grassroots advocacy campaigns
  • Integrate PAEA Research data to support the development of state-level advocacy resources
  • Draft public communications to state policymakers on issues impacting PAEA’s membership
  • Participate in coalitions with other advocacy professionals representing health professions education organizations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required

Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, or related field

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in advocacy and/or public policy
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred:

Previous employment in a federal or state legislative capacity

  • Experience working in a non-profit/association setting
  • Demonstrated history of collaboration with health care and/or education stakeholders

ADA Specifications

The ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) as well as to occasionally move about the office or meeting space.

Proficiency in operating office equipment, such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

This position requires periodic travel to assigned organizational events, including the staff retreat.

Work Environment & Benefits

This position is a remote-first role with an expectation for periodic travel to the DC area for advocacy meetings and events.

The individual in this position must be authorized to work in the United States.

PAEA offers a competitive salary and benefits that considers external market compensation and maintains internal equity. The salary range for this position is $70,000-75,000 annually. The benefits package includes health, life, and disability insurances; paid time off and holidays; a 403(b) retirement plan with an 8% employer contribution; monthly wellness stipend, professional development funding, tuition assistance, and other benefits.
