Policy Director


The Concord Coalition Action Fund (Concord Action) is a 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to building a grassroot movement to push for fiscal responsibility in Washington. Our work involves education and advocacy to build bipartisan consensus to address America’s fiscal challenges by paying for priorities, adopting sensible budget reforms and addressing our unsustainable national debt. The organization is based in Arlington, Virginia (Rosslyn area).


We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified Policy Director to monitor, research and write about federal budget and economic issues and help develop substantive, engaging and approachable infographics, presentations, media statements and social media content as issues around the federal budget, tax policy, and the national debt evolve. The position is central to Concord Action’s efforts. Applicants must share a commitment to the organization’s mission and be able to work and communicate in a fast-paced, non-partisan environment.


Primary responsibilities include:


  • Working with Concord Action staff and consultant team to develop rapid response and on-going analysis of key fiscal policy issues and news events.
  • Closely tracking legislative developments on Capitol Hill as well as executive initiatives affecting the federal budget; working with Concord Action executive director and legislative staff to develop a slate of legislative initiatives to support fiscal responsibility.
  • Tracking Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Treasury and other organizations’ reports that provide critical data on the fiscal health of the nation.
  • Writing and/or overseeing production of policy blogs, issue briefs and press statements to ensure that they reflect a high standard of accuracy.
  • Overseeing preparation and maintenance of charts, tables and graphics.
  • Speaking for Concord Action at public events and with the media.


Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:


  • At least 2-3 years of Capitol Hill, academic, federal agency, think tank, or corresponding experience focused on federal budget and economic issues
  • Strong knowledge of key economic policy, federal spending and tax issues
  • Ability to translate technical jargon and economic concepts to a broad public audience
  • Strong writing and quantitative skills
  • Experience working with and building coalitions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Willingness to travel in support of Concord’s public engagement initiatives
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in economics, public policy or public administration.
