Reporting to the Senior Manager, External Affairs & Head of Social Impact, the Manager, Strategic Alliances & Partnerships will engage and build relationships with external stakeholders to build PMI’s credibility, expand the company’s access to non-traditional stakeholders supporting PMI’s legislative and regulatory priorities. The Manager will build relationships with key stakeholders including diversity related organizations, thought leaders across the political spectrum and select policy-oriented third parties at the federal and state level.
Your ‘day to day’:
- Direct and build on PMI’s relationships with traditional and non-traditional third-party stakeholders. Serve as a connector and a source of credible information by consistently delivering meaningful opportunities and relevant communications to EA partners.
- Develop strategies and execute advocacy that advances our policy priorities with external stakeholders, considering the policy and political considerations required to be effective.
- Coordinate with appropriate External Affairs colleagues on engagement strategy and programming for conferences, conventions, and meetings. Planning and preparing appropriate leave behinds and materials, attending conferences as face of PMI.
- Responsible for advancing PMI’s reputation and visibility through stakeholder engagement with minority groups, state and local legislative associations, external business partners, industry observers and key opinion leaders.
- Collaborate with External Affairs teams on ways to advance strategies, communicate our position, and incorporate policy and advocacy developments in real-time.
- Effectively and regularly communicate goals, milestones, metrics, and events to internal and cross-functional teams.
- Identify and recommend new organizations and partnerships to strengthen existing third-party networks and support policy/lobbying objectives.
- Working with the external affairs team, supporting the THR Community efforts, including planning for programming and event management.
- Support Federal team efforts with diversity caucuses, including non-governmental organizations, such as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and Institute, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute to support PMI objectives.
- Support elected official group relationships and engagement strategies with diversity elected official groups at the state level including NCSL, NCBSL, and others as appropriate.
- Support efforts to advance PMI’s reputation and visibility through stakeholder engagement with minority groups, state and local legislative associations, external business partners, and industry observers and key opinion leaders.
- Represent PMI at various public facing events to help build trust and maintain a network supporting PMI’s public policy agenda.
Who we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, public policy, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of professional experience at a corporation, in government, or with a politically oriented organization. Established relationships with third-party organizations including with diversity organizations required
- - with demonstrated ability to implement and execute initiatives.
- Ability to quickly grasp PMI priority issues and speak about those issues with relevant audiences.
- Understanding and interest in government affairs and politics.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, writing & presentation skills
- Effective organizational, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills
- Willingness to travel 30% of time to mobilize and align with stakeholders
- Ability to contribute to cross-functional teams, works well in a team environment and enjoys working in a collegial, yet highly demanding culture.

Annual Base Salary Range: $148,000-$203,500
