Job Description


The DC internship program is directed toward current and recent undergraduate, graduate, and associate degree students. All applicants should be responsible self-starters who possess strong writing, research, and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have a proven ability to both work independently and well with others, as well as possess strong task delegation and completion skills. Backgrounds in political science, international relations, environmental studies, liberal arts, and communications are desirable but not required. NY-13 ties are strongly preferred.

Intern Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting the Congressman and staff in all areas of office operation
  • Corresponding with and serving our constituents through tasks such as answering phones, responding to inquiries, and giving tours at the U.S. Capitol
  • Researching legislative initiatives and drafting letters as well as replies to constituent inquiries
  • Attending committee hearings and briefings
  • Assisting with a variety of legislative, casework and/or communications projects

Commitment & Credit: 

Internship opportunities are available on a full-time or part-time basis. 

School credit is possible for all internships if arranged and approved by the intern’s respective college or university. 

Candidates may also apply for stipends.

Interns are required to commit to working a minimum of 20 hours a week.
