Job Description
Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking a Controller to join our team working for a healthy and thriving New England for all. The Controller will work to advance organizational excellence within CLF, managing all accounting operations and financial reporting for the organization. The Controller will interact regularly with CLF staff throughout the organization and must be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. This position will report to the CFO and is based in the Boston office with flexibility for some remote work.
What You’ll Do:
· Lead the accounting and finance team, including supervising internal staff and external partners, and overseeing all accounting activities;
- Supervise, mentor and coach team members, engaging in effective and inclusive management practices that ensure a healthy workplace culture;
- Ensure timely and accurate interim and annual financial reporting for all stakeholders;
- Build expertise in and expand capabilities of our accounting software to facilitate detailed program reporting and analysis;
· Assist with the organization’s annual budget process;
- Ensure high quality, timely financial report materials for foundation grants. Provide custom reports and analysis to the development team as requested;
- Oversee successful execution of organizational audits;
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all federal, state, and local tax filings, reporting regulations, and form filings;
- Mitigate risk by ensuring strong internal controls, backup for all essential functions, and maintenance of appropriate insurance coverage;
- Maintain cash flow projections to support operational needs;
- Oversee document retention of financial records and contracts;
- Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, emphasizing communication, responsiveness, and problem solving; and
- Assist with or lead special projects as needed to support the organization’s growth.
What You’ll Need
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent; CPA a plus;
· 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and/or finance, preferably in a nonprofit setting and including a management role;
· Experience using fund accounting software, including grant accounting, tracking and reporting;
· The ability to operate at both the strategic and hands-on level;
· Strong analytical as well as excellent communication skills;
· Strong leadership and supervisory skills and a demonstrated ability to create an environment of integrity and trust;
· A proactive, problem-solving approach and the ability to effectively build relationships with staff across the organization;

Compensation & Benefits
CLF offers a competitive salary, an extensive benefits plan, and an open, inclusive, and accepting work environment where differences are highly respected. The starting salary range for the position is $110,000 - $132,000; actual salary will reflect experience and qualifications.
