Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, the largest Girl Scout council in the country, is looking for an innovative Director of Strategic Initiatives to lead priority projects that will shape the future of Girl Scouting in our region. The Opportunity
As the Director of Strategic Initiatives, you will be pivotal in advancing our council’s strategic objectives. You will lead high-impact projects from ideation to implementation, focusing on strategic relationship building, community engagement, large-scale campaigns, and coalition building. Your work will directly contribute to growing and diversifying our membership, supporting our dedicated volunteers, delivering high-quality programs, and increasing investments in Girl Scouting.
This leadership role offers the unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on our organization and the communities we serve. You will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including volunteers, funders, and community groups, ensuring that our initiatives are culturally competent and inclusive.
What You’ll Do
- Strategic Relationship Building: Develop and execute strategies to build and maintain relationships with diverse communities across our geographic footprint. Identify key opportunity areas to expand our reach and impact.
- Community Engagement: Lead culturally competent community listening sessions, facilitating engagement with existing members and creating systems for council-wide learning and leveraging.
- Campaign Leadership: Spearhead the “Once a Girl Scout, Always a Girl Scout” campaign, re-engaging over 1 million Girl Scouts of all ages. Design and implement strategies for continuous engagement, supporting volunteer, donor, and brand ambassador efforts.
- Convention Integration: Play a key role in linking strategic initiatives to the successful execution of the 2026 National Girl Scout Convention, where we will host tens of thousands of Girl Scouts from across the country.
- Diverse Communication: Ensure culturally competent communication across all interactions with volunteers, funders, and community groups.
- Data Analysis: Use data-driven insights to inform strategy and identify trends.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with council staff and internship teams, providing guidance on culturally competent programs, communications, and marketing strategies.
- Event Management: Assist in managing on-site production for events as needed, with a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.
What We’re Looking For
- Cultural Competence: You have a deep understanding of cultural dynamics and the ability to communicate with humility and respect.
- Relationship Builder: You excel at building and maintaining relationships with diverse groups, understanding the nuances of bias, power, and positionality.
- Community Engagement: You are experienced in collecting and respecting community and individual experiences, and you bring a collaborative approach to your work.
- Strategic Thinker: You have a proven ability to develop and implement strategies that drive organizational goals and impact.
- Nonprofit Experience: You bring experience working in the nonprofit sector as a volunteer or staff member, understanding the unique dynamics of mission-driven work.
- Public Speaker: You are comfortable speaking in front of diverse groups, from small teams to large audiences of all ages.
- Organized and Efficient: You thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects with ease.
- Tech Savvy: You are proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Multilingual Communicator: Ability to communicate in multiple languages is preferred.
- Mobility: You have access to a personal vehicle for transportation to and from offsite meetings and projects.
- Philanthropy and Stewardship: You have a solid understanding of philanthropy, stewardship, community outreach, and relationship management.

The starting salary for this position is $120,000.
