The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Director, Product Communications for its Communications division in Washington, DC. ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative. 


The position is responsible for providing strategic direction and communications services to the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) self-funded groups. The position provides high-level project management expertise, outreach to news media and other stakeholders, creates strategic communications plans, as well as oversees issue management and communication materials development for multiple product groups. The position is responsible for coordinating with other Product Communications team members as well as ACC subject matter experts and reports directly to the Senior Director, Product Communications.


Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field, and at least eight years of experience in public policy, issue advocacy, media relations or relevant field. Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to write creatively and communicate technical information, as well as the ability to process technical, abstract verbal and written information to establish beneficial messaging framework and implement action plans. Exposure to regulatory/technical or advocacy communications in a trade association, experience using social and digital media tools and platforms, Federal agency public affairs experience or public affairs agency experience preferred. Salary Range: $116,625.00 To $139,950.00 annually.
