Job Description
Senator-Elect Lisa Blunt Rochester seeks a strategic, creative, and experienced Communications Director to manage her communications team and lead her media and press outreach efforts, based in her Washington, D.C. office. A key part of the Senator’s senior leadership team, the Communications Director will work closely with the Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and the State Director to create and implement the Senator’s media and press strategy to ensure the Senator’s strategic goals and vision are being communicated effectively. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervising a communications team of up to five people, developing and executing a strategic communications plan, using creative digital and social media tools to better inform and provide better services for Delaware constituents, keeping the Senator and team up to speed on current events, developing and maintaining strong working relationships with reporters, serving as on-the-record spokesperson, and implementing proactive strategies to support the legislative and outreach goals of the Senator. A high level of organization, accountability, initiative, strong written and verbal communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills is required. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Capitol Hill, experience managing a team, social media and digital expertise, and have at least 5–7 years of relevant experience.
