Legislative Assistant – Washington, D.C.

The Office of the Governor is looking for an experienced Legislative Assistant (Program Specialist III) to work in the Texas Office of State-Federal Relations.

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs complex consultative services and technical assistance work in Washington, D.C. You will be called on to do a broad range of work from office administration to legislative and federal policy. The policy work involves facilitating communication between Texas state officials, the Executive Branch, Congress, and relevant staff to promote Texas’ federal priorities. Work includes providing information and analysis regarding the effects of federal legislative and regulatory proposals on Texas and its citizens.

  • Manages office operations, including mail, travel, record-keeping, records management systems, and office supplies.
  • Assists with compiling, writing, and preparing reports for internal and external use regarding activities of Texas Congressional delegation, including but not limited to hearing summaries, memos, etc.
  • Tracks pending federal legislation, Congressional hearings, and federal rulemakings.
  • Assists in scheduling meetings, phone calls, and discussions both internally and externally.

How You’ll Qualify

Three (3) years of relevant experience working in state and/or federal government.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business administration, political science, government, public administration, public relations, or a related field; and
  • Four (4) years of experience working in state and/or federal government; and
  • Advanced computer, oral, and written communication skills.
