NAYA Family Center seeks a passionate policy, public health or community organizing professional to be NAYA’s first Health Justice Policy Coordinator. This role will convene partnerships with Native and other community organizations to advocate for better health outcomes, primarily healthier preganacies and births for American Indian/Alaksan Native families. This work will be done in partnership with Future Generations Collaborative.

This is a full-time role with work hours of 9 am to 6 pm with a one hour unpaid lunch. Once training and onboarding are complete, you may work from home on most Mondays and Fridays, athough this is not guaranteed each week. This role reports to Will Miller, Government Affairs Manager.

Starting pay is $60,000 to $65,000/year.

  • You have at least two years of experience in public health, community advocacy, or public policy.
  • You have work or lived experience in the Native community, or commitment to learn Native history and the uniquestrengths and challenges of Urban Natives.
  • You enjoy writing and know that it is a powerful tool for convening people, obtaining funding, and launchingprograms.
  • You are a convener. You enjoy connecting people and organizations. You don’t mind being at the front of the room and facilitating meetings.
  • You are an exceptional project manager. You always have a plan, and you always meet your deadlines. You are skilled at helping your team members to meet their deadlines, too.
  • You know the power of data and that social services work doesn’t get done without it. You enjoy working with data and providing reports.
  • You are known for bringing order to your team’s work. You are a systems thinker and are always devising ways to get the work done more efficiently and with fewer errors.
  • It’s easy and enjoyable to attend community events and celebrations. You know that showing up and authentically connecting with others is essential to your work.
  • You are self-aware. You listen well and center others. You are generally OK making mistakes and takingresponsibility for them.
  • You don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves and pitch in, even when it’s not your job.

What You’ll Do

  • Build relationships with Future Generations Collaborative (FGC) partners, Community Health Workers (CHWs), Elders and Natural Helpers (E/NHs) and other community members to identify advocacy priorities.
  • Spend 50% of your time coordinating policy/advocacy efforts for NAYA and 50% of your time coordinatoring policy/advocacy effort for FGC.
  • Advocate at the local and statewide levels for the prevention and intervention of substance exposed pregnancies.
  • Provide leadership of Future Generations Collaborative Policy Mode.
  • Help lead monthly FGC and Policy Mode meetings.
  • Collect data and write reports for funders. Write and manage grants. Develop new grant opportunities that advance health equity.
  • Serve on the committees and teams include the Community Powered Change Leadership Team and the Oregon Health Equity Alliance, among others
  • Incorporate NAYA clients’ lived experiences into advocacy and policy work.
