Summary

The position is located in the Bureau of Global Public Affairs, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Media Strategy, Office of Press Operations, USAID Spokesperson Unit (GPA/MD/PRS/A). The Bureau of Global Public Affairs (GPA) carries out the Secretary of State's mandate to articulate the foreign policy of the United States and to communicate with and engage U.S. and global audiences.


Duties

At the GS-11 level, the incumbent performs essentially the same duties as outlined below however, the scope and complexity of assignments are of less responsibility and independence and receives closer than normal supervision than the GS-12 level.

The press officer supports the Department's mission by acting as a spokesperson who has a mastery of interpersonal relations.

The press officer monitors ongoing foreign affairs issues and policy developments as they relate to the Agency's public affairs initiative and advises the Spokesperson and Principal Deputies accordingly.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and engages members of the national and international media to disseminate, clarify, and defend important U.S. foreign policy messages with far-reaching implications.

Assists in establishing the substantive agenda and writing announcements, serving as part of a collaborative effort to both anticipate and provide a rapid response to global activity.
