Job Description

Punchbowl News is a news content company founded by Anna Palmer, Jake Sherman, John Bresnahan and Rachel Schindler focused on power, people and politics in Washington. We are hiring an experienced congressional reporter to join our editorial team.

Punchbowl News' primary focus is breaking news about power, the nation's political leadership and explaining to our audience of political junkies how Washington works. We produce (at least) three newsletters each day, a daily podcast, dozens of events and more across our growing product suite. Punchbowl News' theory is that power in Washington emanates from the Capitol – and that's the center of our focus.

Our audience includes members of Congress, high-ranking members of the Biden administration, lobbyists, top-level reporters, media executives, Wall Streeters, tech and Hollywood executives and everyday political fans.

The ideal candidate will want to completely own coverage of the power, people and politics driving Capitol Hill. We’re looking for someone who knows Capitol Hill and wants to break news daily.

Responsibilities:

  • This reporter will file several dispatches each week for our flagship newsletters, Punchbowl News AM, Midday and PM. They also will be responsible for breaking news on the beat.
  • Punchbowl News is thinking expansively about new and inventive ways to cover the shifting power dynamics on Capitol Hill in the upcoming Congress, and this reporter will play a leading role in our efforts.
  • This reporter will be willing to participate in and potentially host live newsmaker events and be comfortable representing Punchbowl News on TV and radio.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the Capitol, Congress and national politics is a must.
  • At least one year of congressional reporting experience is required.
  • Impeccable work ethic is crucial.
  • Experience writing clean, concise copy.
  • A proven track record in breaking news.
