The Observer Research Foundation America (ORF America) was established in 2020 as an independent, non-partisan public policy institute based in Washington DC. It is an overseas affiliate of the Observer Research Foundation, India’s premier non-government think tank. Job Summary

ORF America is seeking a full-time Communications Assistant to join a dynamic and growing organization. Responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of a communications strategy, database management, event outreach, social media engagement, website management, and creating multimedia content. This position reports to the Global Programs Manager and offers the opportunity to play a central role in the development and execution of the communications strategy for ORF America. The Communications Assistant will work closely with the ORF America team in Washington, D.C., as well as the communications team at ORF in India. ORF America is operating on a hybrid work plan (both in the office and from home). This job may involve some international travel.


Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  • 1-2 years related work experience.
  • Social media proficiency within a professional context.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with database and website management.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English. An ability to communicate effectively with senior government, academic and corporate leaders.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator is an asset.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Candidates must be based in the Washington, D.C. area and eligible to work in the United States.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the development and execution of the communications strategy for a growing institution with a global audience.
  • Database management.
  • Copyediting, layout, and posting website content.
  • Drafting, designing, and disseminating external communications such as weekly newsletters, press releases, and announcements.
  • Communications for virtual and in-person events: working with program managers to create and send invitations; identifying and inviting relevant members of the media; providing technical support on virtual platforms such as Zoom; ensuring that event highlights are captured and posted to the website and social media platforms.
  • Social media dissemination, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Monitoring and understanding the news cycle to help lead efforts to insert ORF America research and experts into relevant policy debates.
  • Working with graphic designers and video editors on content.
  • Tracking and monitoring website and mailing analytics. Supporting efforts to increase traffic and audience engagement.  


Compensation

Salary range: $50,000 - $61,000
