Summary

The position is in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, Office of Public Affairs and Outreach, (IO/PAO) Congressional team. The Bureau of International Organization Affairs is the U.S. Government’s (USG) focal point for multilateral foreign policy formulation and implementation.


Duties

Participates in preparing Department Principals, as well as nominees for departmental and Ambassadorial posts, for hearings, briefings, and meetings with Members of Congress and their staff regarding the United Nations and United Nations system.

Researches and reports on facts associated with Congressional correspondence, questions for the record, and reports to Congress. Stays attuned to changing international issues, events, and policies by monitoring traditional and social media.

Supports all logistical aspects of Congressional meetings and briefings for IO and other departmental officials, including receiving input and materials from relevant parties; setting the location, agenda, and attendees.

Taking notes during the briefing/meeting; reporting observations, questions, and statements made during the contact; and following up to ensure IO meets any commitments for information made during the meeting.

Reviews Congressional activities, including legislation, hearings, and committee meetings and reports on the facts and possible impact on IO and DOS policies and programs regarding the UN system and other organizations.
