Summary

The position is located in the Economic and Social Section (ECOSOC) in the U.S. Mission to the United Nations (USUN). ECOSOC represents the United States on the intergovernmental bodies which oversee the UN’s normative work on economic, social, and human rights issues and the UN’s field operations in the areas of development, post‑conflict peacebuilding, and humanitarian assistance.


Duties


Provides authoritative policy support on economic and social issues to senior Mission and USG officials through written and oral briefings and recommendations to the Department and relevant USG agencies.

Articulates U.S. foreign policy principles and objectives through representation, negotiations, and formal statements at the UN and in the General Assembly.

Coordinates U.S. representation for the Economic and Social (ECOSOC) section at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings and negotiations.

Provides tactical advice on foreign interests and the processes of UN bodies and other governments in a timely fashion to senior USUN officials and the Department to obtain negotiating guidance.

Develops strategy and engages with foreign delegations to promote the elections of American to leadership positions in the United Nations.
