The high level:

The Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) serves as support for the South Carolina Community Engagement Team.The CEC receives ongoing instruction and coaching from, and works with, the regional Community Engagement Director (CED). The CEC’s main focus is to support the CED’s strategic plan to recruit volunteers, and develop, coordinate and implement a communications strategy to increase brand awareness and community involvement for the South Carolina region. This role is a part-time, temporary position, up to 29 hours per week and will conclude in June 2024.

What you’ll do:

In conjunction with the regional team, develop, coordinate and implement a communications strategy to increase brand awareness and community involvement and ensure all internal and external communications are seamless and aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Develop engaging multimedia content (including but not limited to videos, graphics, articles and social media posts) to promote community events, initiatives, and activities. Ensure consistency in branding and messaging across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather information, stories, and updates for content creation that is aligned with organizational goals and missions.
  • Monitor and analyze the performance of media content and engagement metrics. Prepare regular reports to evaluate the effectiveness of media strategies and propose improvements.
  • Interact with community members, responding to inquiries, comments and feedback on different media platforms. Moderate social media platforms and foster a positive online presence for the organization.
  • Organize and coordinate community events, workshops, seminars, and activities to promote engagement.
  • Coordinate logistics, timelines, and resources for successful event execution.
  • Prepare press releases and arrange media coverage for community events to include live coverage, photography, video recording, and live social media updates.

About you!

You’ll be successful in this role if you:

  • Have up to 2 years of experience in writing and editing, media relations, social media management, event management and project management.
  • Experience in volunteer engagement and/or outreach is preferred, but not required.
  • Proven ability to manage tasks and schedule independently.
  • Have strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Have experience working with diverse communities in the Charleston metropolitan area.
  • Have access to reliable transportation to attend volunteer and community events.
  • Have excellent computer and database skills.
  • Have flexibility and adaptability in work style and work schedule, including some night and weekend time to monitor Reading Partners South Carolina’s social media accounts and attend community events.

  • Ability to prove eligibility to work legally in the U.S. and that you are at least 18 years of age.

  • Are an AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or other national service alum/alumna
  • Have experience working in the launch or growth phases of organizations
  • Speak beginning, intermediate, or advance Spanish
