The Office of U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth seeks a highly motivated, organized Military/Veterans Community Outreach Coordinator and Caseworker based in the Senator’s Chicago, IL Office.

Working with the Senator’s State Team, the coordinator’s primary duties include building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, constituents and communities in the Chicagoland area, gathering feedback from stakeholders to identify key concerns and legislative issues and working with the legislative team on oversight activity related to the identified concerns and issues.

Responsibilities include developing outreach plans in designated issue areas to achieve strategic goals for the office, planning, coordinating, executing and staffing outreach events for the Senator in Cook and the collar counties. Specifically, the coordinator will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Veteran Service Organizations, Veterans advocacy groups, VA Medical Centers, active military/guard/reserve components and other Veterans and military stakeholders.

Additionally, the coordinator is responsible for managing casework related to Veterans and military issues. Specifically, the coordinator manages constituent casework for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense including all branches of the military and the National Personnel Records Center.

The position requires some travel to communities throughout the area of responsibility and the state. This includes occasional meetings and events during evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate will thrive under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, is personable, dependable, a team player, flexible, able to multitask and prioritize and works well under pressure. The candidate should have familiarity with the region and an interest in public policy.

Prior military service strongly preferred. A background or experience with customer service is preferred, and strong writing and grammar skills are a must. To be successful, the candidate should be both self-motivated and able to work independently, but also comfortable working as part of a large, highly coordinated team. The expected starting annual salary for this position is $57,000-$62,000 with benefits. Salary is negotiable based on experience.
