Job Description
House Democratic Caucus Policy Analyst Job Description:
Under the direction of the Oklahoma House Democratic Leader, the House Democratic Caucus
Policy Analyst supports and advises the House Democratic Leader and Members of the House
Democratic Caucus in policy-related matters, including but not limited to the research,
development, and advancement of the wide-ranging policy priorities of the House Democratic
Caucus. This position provides policy support to all Members of the House Democratic Caucus
and staff in the advancement of members' legislative initiatives, including answering questions,
providing guidance, troubleshooting issues, and leveraging relationships. This is a full-time
position, requiring additional hours during the legislative session (Feb.-May). This position
reports directly to the House Democratic Leader and is located in Oklahoma City.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare policy reports, documents, and updates for the House Democratic Leader and
Members of the House Democratic Caucus.
2. Manages and Maintains Caucus-wide Policy Document/Spreadsheet to provide support for
Members as they prepare for Committees and Floor Sessions.
3. Track all House and Senate bills throughout the legislative process and identify potential
opportunities for the House Democratic Caucus to influence and shape the outcome through
strategic communications and amendments.
4. Maintain an advanced working knowledge of:
strategies to effectively communicate the House Democratic Caucus agenda and priorities to
the public and media.
7. Anticipate, identify, and troubleshoot issues of concern or significance based on House
Democratic Caucus policy priorities and initiatives.
8. Work with House Democratic Leader, or designate, and House staff to develop House
Democratic Caucus budget proposal.
9. Identify potential opportunities for bicameral/bipartisan collaboration to advance House
Democratic Caucus policy initiatives and build coalitions for support.
10. Build and maintain partisan/non-partisan professional working relationships with:
direction of the House Democratic Leader, or when deemed necessary.
12. Coordinate and oversee special projects and/or other duties as assigned by the House
Democratic Leader.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy or related fields.
2. 1-3 Years Experience in public policy research, analyzing, and/or development.
3. Must be able to work long hours during Legislative Session (Feb.-May), especially during
deadline weeks and finalizing the budget. Comp time is provided.
Required Skills:
1. Exceptional problem solving skills.
2. Ability to summarize complex information, both verbally and written.
3. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, sometimes during rapidly changing,
high-pressure situations.
4. Must be a self-starter committed to finding new and creative processes and policies.
5. Ability to exhibit and maintain professionalism at all times.
6. Ability to collaborate and communicate in a professional manner with members, staff,
stakeholders, and organizations regardless of political ideology.

7. Anticipate, identify, and troubleshoot issues of concern or significance based on House
Democratic Caucus policy priorities and initiatives.
8. Work with House Democratic Leader, or designate, and House staff to develop House
Democratic Caucus budget proposal.
9. Identify potential opportunities for bicameral/bipartisan collaboration to advance House
Democratic Caucus policy initiatives and build coalitions for support.
10. Build and maintain partisan/non-partisan professional working relationships with:
- House staff – Research, Legal, and Fiscal
- state agency officials and liaisons
- advocacy and community organizations
- lobbyists
- Speaker's office staff
- Senate Democratic Caucus staff
- Federal elected officials' staff
direction of the House Democratic Leader, or when deemed necessary.
