Bloomberg Associates (BA) is Bloomberg Philanthropies’ pro bono consulting service founded by Michael R.Bloomberg, the 108th Mayor of New York City and Founder of Bloomberg LP, as a philanthropic venture.  We provide services to cities that help governments improve the quality of life of their citizens.  BA works across nine (9) different focus areas: Cultural Assets Management, Marketing & Communications, Media and Digital Strategies, Municipal Integrity, Social Services, Sustainability, Transportation, Economic Development and Urban Planning, with teams that have deep subject matter expertise and extensive experience in municipal government.

Position Description

Bloomberg Associates seeks a Project Management Fellow based in Houston, Texas, from January through the end of May 2020. The role of this Fellow is to manage and coordinate all deliverables that are part of the development of the My Brother’s Keeper Houston School Discipline Reform initiative. This initiative brings together the City’s justice system, school leaders, and advocacy group to design and launch a comprehensive and intentional citywide school-discipline reform strategy that is supported by all respective parties. The Fellow will coordinate all the planning activities across the three multi-sector work groups (Culture of Data & Accountability, Mandatory Training, and In-School Resources) and three workstreams (Community Engagement, Evaluation, and Partnerships).

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and plan for all meetings, including invitations and room setup 
  • ​Develop with each workgroup and workstream’s lead a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • ​Ensure that all deliverables are delivered on-time
  • ​Report to the core planning group the status developments from workgroup and workstreams
  • ​Support workgroup and workstream leads with completing tasks when needed

Key Qualifications

  • 4-7 years of internship /professional experience
  • Proven work experience in project management
  • Excellent internal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Interest in city government
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent ability to work effectively with others
  • Excellent written communication abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills including an ability to learn new topics quickly
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn and develop new skills on the job
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
