Job Title: Donor Development Officer

Duration: 6 month contract

Location: Remote eligible 

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Donor Development Officer to join our team for a short-term project for After the Races. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing relationships with donors, ensuring their continued support and engagement with our organization. They will also play a crucial role in developing sponsors and supporters for the gala event in September.

Responsibilities:

Donor Acquisition and Stewardship:

  • Utilize wealth management software tools to identify potential high-value donors.
  • Implement strategies to steward donors and strengthen their connection to our organization.
  • Coordinate stewardship activities, including organizing donor appreciation events, recognition programs, and personalized acknowledgments.
  • Work closely with the After the Races’ staff and board members to identify opportunities for donor engagement and cultivation.
  • Utilize wealth screening applications available to target solicitations of new donors as well as cultivate existing donors and see if they will increase their giving.

Donor Communication:

  • Communicate with donors through various channels such as emails, phone calls, and letters to express gratitude, provide updates, and solicit feedback.
  • Ensure timely and personalized responses to donor inquiries and requests.
  • Assist in drafting compelling content for donor communications, including newsletters, impact reports, and fundraising appeals.

Database Management:

  • Familiarity with Bloomerang, or similar, software and Donor Search.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the organization's database.
  • Track donor interactions, contributions, and preferences.
  • Generate reports and analyze donor data to inform decision-making and strategy development.

Fundraising/Event Development:

  • Collaborate with After the Races’ staff and board to develop fundraising initiatives and campaigns. Including, but not limited to, the ongoing capital campaign and the large fundraising event in September (the After the Races gala, “gala”).
  • Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising events, primarily through donor outreach and solicitation of sponsorship opportunities for the gala.
  • If requested, identify potential funding opportunities and assist in grant research and proposal development as needed.

Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate positive and collaborative relationships with donors, volunteers, board members, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization professionally at external events and meetings, fostering goodwill and support within the community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, marketing) or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in donor relations, fundraising, or nonprofit development preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-service-oriented mindset.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in donor management software and Google applications such as Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of our organization.
