US Salary Band - $85,246 - $99,738 (salary is based on experience)

This is an exciting time at the Fund, having been undertaking a Strategic Review and being about to embark on an Operational Review to optimize our internal structures and systems to support the delivery of the Fund’s mission and strategic direction.

The Position 

The Individual Giving Specialist is responsible for growing and retaining a portfolio of monthly and mid-level donors through targeted stewardship and cultivation as well as managing a variety of campaigns and activities for the small but growing Individual Giving team. The Specialist will report to the Senior Manager of Individual Giving and maintain close relationships with the entire Development and Communications Department, especially the Donor Marketing Manager and Salesforce Administrator. The Individual Giving Specialist will also serve as the project manager on shared fundraising campaigns and initiatives and support major gift fundraising efforts.

This position will be primarily remote with a preference for candidates based in the Washington D.C. or NYC areas. Even though this position is remote, employees must be based in the following states Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia or New York. Travel to DC will be required a few times a year. International travel may be required once or twice a year.

Essential Duties 

Steward and cultivate portfolio of mid-level donors (40%)

  • Manage and grow individual donor base, with a specific focus on growing the portfolio of monthly donors and donors giving between $250 and $2,500 a year.
  • Oversee the strategy and operations of the Global Activist Alliance, our monthly and mid-level giving society, including the development and dissemination of email and mail content.
  • In partnership with Donor Marketing Manager and Communications Team, develop content plans, including for end-of-year and other campaigns. 
  • Cultivate and steward donors via email, mail, phone calls, events, and meetings. 
  • Increase donor retention rates by implementing and managing stewardship plans for monthly donors and for those giving between $250 and $2,500 a year.
  • Monitor giving data on a regular basis and suggest tactics and targeted interventions to improve retention for active and lapsed donors.
  • Research and suggest new fundraising strategies and opportunities.

Manage activities, events, and data related to the Fund’s individual donors (40%)

  • Track and report revenue from individual donors in our Salesforce CRM and Power BI dashboards.
  • Develop content that donors receive across different streams (mail, email, etc.), and identify new ways to engage and retain donors.
  • Help organize events, such as webinars, cocktail parties, Board functions, donor trips, and other gatherings. 
  • Identify major donor prospects among mid-level donors, and mid-level prospects among lower-level donors, and develop cultivation and upgrade plans for those donors.
  • Coordinate with Communications team and external consultants to develop donor-facing materials for each donor program and level. Materials include digital, email, and mail content.
  • Write and produce narrative and financial reports for major donors.

Administrative tasks and Organizational coordination (20%)

  • Supervise data entry, acknowledgement, and reporting processes for all gifts from individuals.
  • Coordinate with Development Associate, Finance, and Salesforce Administrator on gift processing, payment allocations, and gift reconciliation processes.
  • Work with the Marketing Technology and Analytics Officer to improve digital fundraising and stewardship.
  • Manage quotes and invoices from external consultants and vendors.
  • Represent the Individual Giving team in meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 to 6 years of development experience with strong preference for direct experience working with individual donors. 
  • Experience in event coordination, project management, and development operations.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills. 
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy. 
  • Experience processing donations and managing donor/gift data in a CRM (preferably Salesforce).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Spanish, French, or Arabic language skills a plus.
  •  Knowledge of human rights, philanthropy, and grantmaking. Experience working in international and multicultural environments. Creative problem solver who can analyze and solve logistical hurdles. Someone who takes the initiative, sees what needs to be done today and into the future, and does it.
