Job Description
The Senate Research Center (SRC), a nonpartisan research office of the Senate of the State of Texas, has an openings for one or more research associates.
The SRC responds to research and information requests from the Lieutenant Governor's Office, members of the Senate, and Senate employees and provides research assistance for Senate committees. During legislative sessions, SRC prepares analyses of all bills that are considered by the Senate. SRC staff attend Senate committee hearings and meetings of legislative entities and produce summaries of those meetings for members of the Senate and Senate staff. The SRC also publishes research and legislative reports for the Senate and Lieutenant Governor's Office.
Job Description
Research associates conduct research on a variety of public policy issues at the request of members of the Senate and Senate staff. Research associates attend Senate committee hearings and write summaries of those hearings, which must be completed and distributed within 24 hours of the conclusion of the hearing during a legislative session and within a slightly longer timeframe when the legislature is not in session. Research associates also contribute to several publications relative to legislative and public policy matters.
Qualifications
Attainment of a bachelor's degree or higher.
Satisfactory performance on a writing test that will be administered at the time of the interview.
Legislative experience is helpful but not required.
