Job Description
The office of Congressman Mike Quigley (IL-05) is seeking a highly motivated and hardworking Press Assistant based in DC and reporting to a Chicago-based Communications Director.
Press responsibilities will focus heavily on digital media including creating graphics, editing video, drafting copy for social media, and updating the website. Additionally, they will assist the Communications Director in drafting releases, floor speeches, and quotes, maintaining press lists, distributing daily press clips, and staffing the Member at all DC-based press events.
Candidates should be innovative, detail-oriented, passionate about good governance, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. Prior Hill or campaign communications experience is necessary. Professional digital experience is preferred. Ideal candidates will have ties to Chicago or Illinois. Women, LGBT, and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Manage social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Threads, YouTube, and Bluesky, including drafting content, creating graphics, and filming and editing video
- Draft and distribute weekly e-newsletter
- Staff Member at DC-based media events
- Draft news releases, quotes, statements, speeches, and talking points
- Maintain and update website and press lists
- Distribute daily press clips
- Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- 1+ years of hill or campaign experience
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communications strategies
- Strong writing and creative skills
- Experience with graphic design and video editing
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team environment
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Ties to Chicago or Illinois are a plus
The salary for this position is $60,000.
