Job Summary
The Director of Communications plays a crucial role in amplifying Bridgeway Capital’s social impact by effectively managing and directing all communication efforts. Reporting to the Chief Strategy & Development Officer, this position ensures that communication strategies are not only aligned with, but also actively support, Bridgeway’s strategic initiatives and development goals. Effective communication is paramount to promoting loan deployment, enhancing community engagement, and expanding Bridgeway’s influence across its multistate service area. As Bridgeway strives to serve underserved populations and revitalize communities, clear, consistent, and compelling messaging is essential to engage stakeholders, attract new clients, and maintain strong relationships with existing partners and funders.
Personal Profile
The Director of Communications is responsible for implementing and managing Bridgeway’s strategic communications to enhance visibility and impact. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities, from strategic planning to hands-on creation. The person in this role will have strong familiarity with strategic communication management and will oversee the organization’s branding, websites, social media, email marketing, annual reports, public relations, events, print collateral, multi-channel marketing, and communication templates (e.g., letterhead, presentation templates, etc.). The person in this role will have excellent internal and external relationship management skills and a demonstrated capacity to manage challenging and competing deadlines.
Job responsibilities:
Strategic Communication Management (25% of effort):
- Develop and execute an annual communication plan that aligns with and supports Bridgeway’s strategic goals and development objectives.
- Ensure all communication channels, including websites and social media, feature up-to-date, engaging content.
- Maintain brand guidelines and ensure the brand is consistently represented across all communications materials and channels.
- Field communication requests from across the organization, provide communication strategy, define project deliverables, and implement communication projects that support lending and program activities.
- Monitor and analyze relevant metrics to optimize engagement and reach.
Event Coordination and Management (25 % of effort):
- Design and oversee all organizational events, including large-scale events such as The Annual Event and small-scale events to promote brand awareness and foster opportunities for funding.
- Manage all logistics including, but not limited to, venue selection, vendor engagement, event program and run of show, and sponsorship engagement, ensuring each event successfully promotes Bridgeway’s objectives.
Content Creation and Media Relations (40% of effort):
- Create high-quality content in-house that informs audiences and demonstrates impact.
- Execute multi-channel marketing campaigns to reach audiences through various platforms.
- Produce annual reports and other external reports that effectively communicate Bridgeway’s mission, impact, and successes.
- Direct the production of high-quality communications across Bridgeway’s channels, including websites, social media, email marketing, print collateral, and press.
- Lead and manage contracted vendors (e.g., photographers, videographers, content creators, printers) to ensure that third-party work aligns with Bridgeway’s brand standards and tone and is completed according to a predetermined schedule.
- Cultivate relationships with media and oversee public relations efforts to secure and expand media coverage of Bridgeway’s activities and impacts.
- Manage media inquiries, prepare spokespersons, and act as a key media contact.
- Act as a key point of contact for crisis communication efforts and enact plans to mitigate reputational risk.
Research and Audience Engagement (5% of effort):
- Conduct ongoing market research to understand the needs of existing and potential clients and stakeholders and adapt communication strategies accordingly.
- Monitor communications trends within the CDFI sector and beyond, ensuring Bridgeway’s strategies remain innovative and effective.
Other tasks as assigned (5% effort)
Requirements:
- Expertise in strategic communication planning and execution.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of copywriting, graphic design, layout, and publishing.
- Working knowledge of content management systems and marketing platforms.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years relevant experience and demonstrated success in a communications and/or marketing position.
- Knowledge of and experience providing communication services on the topic of community and economic development, impact-driven finance, social impact, and other topics relevant to Bridgeway’s mission is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with full capability to write error-free prose, maintain a consistent tone, and align all published materials with Bridgeway’s mission and vision.
- Superior project management and time management skills.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media, social media,the power of storytelling and integrated multi-channel communications to enhance Bridgeway’s market presence.
- Self-motivated, decisive, and resourceful with the ability to flex with rapid change and act quickly on opportunities.
- Ability to build productive relationships with internal and external constituents.
- Exemplary team player with a positive and professional approach to work.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, Social Media Platforms, Email Marketing Platforms, HubSpot, and Microsoft 360.
Compensation
Competitive salary in the $xx,xxx-$xx,xxx range will be determined by level of experience. Comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, a retirement plan, flexible spending accounts, and paid time off, including paid parental leave.
Bridgeway Capital currently uses a hybrid work model. Bridgeway requires that all staff be in the office two days a week, although managers may request that their team be in the office more frequently as required to complete work efficiently. The number of days in the office is subject to change.
