Job Description
The Housing Rights Center (“HRC”) is seeking a full-time Outreach Coordinator to provide education and outreach on fair housing and landlord-tenant issues throughout Los Angeles County and Ventura County.
BACKGROUND: Founded in 1968, HRC is the nation’s largest civil rights non-profit dedicated to achieving discrimination-free housing. HRC has a full-time staff of approximately 40 and offers: (1) housing discrimination investigation, (2) enforcement and impact litigation, (3) outreach and education, and (4) general landlord/tenant counseling.
HRC’s mission is to actively support and promote freedom of residence through education, advocacy, and litigation, to the end that all persons have the opportunity to secure the housing they desire and can afford, without regard to their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, marital status, disability, ancestry, age, source of income or other characteristics protected by law.
HRC’s Media, Outreach, and Education Department consists of the Director, one Senior Outreach Coordinator, and one Outreach Coordinator.
The Outreach Coordinator role is a hybrid-remote position, with the majority of work performed off-site. This position requires frequent local travel in Los Angeles County for outreach events (workshops, booths, and literature distribution), with occasional travel to Ventura County, along with reliable personal transportation.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Outreach Coordinator will:
• Plan, promote, and present workshops, presentations, and trainings on fair housing laws for diverse audiences including tenants, landlords, non-profit agencies, and government staff.
• Maintain program records through accurate and timely data entry and reporting.
• Engage directly with the communities served by staffing outreach booths at resource fairs and hosting walk-in clinic sessions.
• Deliver and distribute outreach and education materials throughout Los Angeles and Ventura County.
• Assist with improving fair housing outreach and education materials and developing new fair housing outreach and education materials.
• Create and post engaging content to social media pages and website.
• Develop and maintain relationships with city officials, local organizations and community-based agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
• Demonstrated interest in civil rights and social justice issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfort with public speaking and ability to engage an audience.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with using applications such as Excel, Adobe InDesign, Canva, and MS Forms.
• Reliable and strong internet connection (able to conduct presentations via live video).
• This office position requires occasional lifting and moving of office materials 25 pounds or less.
• Must possess a valid California's Driver License, proof of auto liability insurance, and have the use of a personal vehicle to enable local travel through Los Angeles County and Ventura County.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
SCHEDULE: This position requires a 40-hour work week with flexibility to accommodate occasional weekend and evening hours.
SALARY: $50,000 - $55,000 depending on experience.
BENEFITS: HRC offers an excellent benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance and a 403(b)-retirement plan with an employer contribution. HRC provides mileage reimbursement and a monthly telephone stipend.
