The Times Square Alliance is seeking a highly motivated Policy and Research Coordinator interested in urban studies, public policy, and neighborhood development, to help us manage, evaluate, and advocate for Times Square.

The Times Square Alliance’s Policy, Planning and Research department has planned and executed some of the most prominent placemaking and capital development initiatives in New York City, including the reconstruction of Father Duffy Square and the Broadway pedestrian plazas. The team has also built one of the most comprehensive urban research and data analysis programs and uses that research to develop and advocate for innovative urban economic development and management policies that are informed by evidence and challenge accepted norms and practices. The department has also been involved with an array of advocacy efforts that have resulted in innovative pedestrian and traffic improvements and newer and more appropriate regulation of the public realm.

The Policy and Research Coordinator will work closely with the Policy, Planning and Research team on projects relating to urban research, external affairs, policy tracking and data analysis. The Policy and External Affairs Coordinator reports to the Policy, Planning and Research Manager and the SVP of Policy, Planning and Research. The Coordinator will also work in collaboration with the Executive Office and the Communications team.

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identify, analyze and track legislation at the city, state and federal level
  • Build relationships and interface with local elected official and agency personnel
  • Assist in the drafting of testimony and other public remarks
  • Assist in collection and analysis of economic and quality of life data for routine reports
  • Support Policy & Research Manager in policy and data analysis
  • Attend relevant meetings with elected officials and administration staff, public hearings, and policy-related discussions and events
  • Help develop advocacy presentations in support of the policy agenda
  • Design and analyze surveys and communicate topline findings
  • Perform administrative duties such as note taking, invoicing, and procurements for thePPR department


Qualifications/Skills:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Studies, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field
  • Applicants that are passionate about urban policy, public spaces, research or economic development are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants should have strong analytical and writing skills and some experience with research, with an ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adept at stakeholder engagement and relationship building
  • Personal enthusiasm and individual initiative required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required, specifically Excel and Word
  • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator and InDesign, preferred
  • Some experience with SQL, R, and/or Python a plus
  • Familiarity with database management software, specifically Tableau, PowerBI and/or Salesforce, a plus
  • Detail orientation and deadline sensitivity
  • Strong creativity and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills


Salary range: $55,000 - $60,000 annually
