Job Description
PURPOSE: The Outreach Director’s objective is to build community engagement and relational organizing within the assigned legislative district. The Outreach Director will act as Senior Staff within the legislative district staffing structure and report directly to the Campaign Manager and work closely with the Senate (SDM) and Assembly (DACC) Caucus leadership.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Schedule, plan, and promote candidates at events not specifically related to Direct Voter Contact
- Identify various constituency groups and key stakeholders that can affect the outcome of the election and create plan to communicate with these groups regularly and integrate these groups into the overall campaign plan
- Maintain, train, and implement relationship mapping program to identify supporters, expand VBM universe and increase all early vote efforts
- Assist the Field Director in maintaining relationships with County organizational structures and Municipal Chairs to bolster vote by mail returns, early vote turnout, and GOTV efforts locally
- Plan, develop, and participate in events including surrogates, house parties, campaign/community/government/constituent group sponsored events to increase campaign’s visibility and relationships within those groups
- Identify and join key Facebook and other social media platform groups to strategically promote campaign events and messaging within
- Befriend influential social media leaders (e.g., Facebook page moderators, business leaders, blog writers) and integrate these individuals as part of the campaign outreach plan
- Assist Campaign Manager in writing political memos for events and appearances throughout the cycle
- Maintain digital or physical book of bios and photos for stakeholders, local elected officials, and keep track of conversations and meetings with these individuals to ensure consistent political touches for for members and candidates
- Maintain schedule and ensure staffing (either themselves, assign Field Organizers or recruit surrogates/volunteers) of local council meetings, large municipal events within district or that will affect the district, high-profile community events, and any and all opportunities for candidates to engage voters, not including phone banks, canvasses, and fundraisers
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience in NGP-VAN, ActBlue, etc. as a plus.
- Understanding state and federal election law is a real benefit.
- Must have a car, computer, and smartphone.
- Must live in New Jersey and be willing to work in person for the 2023 legislative cycle.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally performed in an office setting. Travel within the state is required.

COMPENSATION: Salary will be commensurate with experience and includes healthcare benefits.
