Job Description

The Executive Director is responsible for leading the California Craft Brewers Association in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors and executing the vision and strategic plan developed in conjunction with the Board of Directors.


The Executive Director is responsible for budgeting, fundraising, overseeing daily operations, membership development, and staffing the association to support the CCBA’s mission, vision, and goals. The Executive Director is responsible for managing the CCBA government affairs program and working closely with our lobbyist and key stakeholders.


The Executive Director represents the association in all activities, including but not limited to government affairs, member-stakeholder relations, and partner development.


 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1)      Board Governance

  • Responsible for leading the CCBA in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board of Directors and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Development of strategic plan in conjunction with the Board of Directors.

 

2)      Organization Operations

  • Oversees and implements resources to ensure the organization's operations are appropriate.
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, managing, and retention of competent, qualified staff.
  • Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions in the day-to-day operations of the association.
  • Oversees and is responsible for executing successful and safe events, including conferences, fundraising events, and educational seminars.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local requirements and regulations of a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization.
  • Integrates and manages other systems and databases, Office 365, QuickBooks, MailChimp, and WordPress.


3)      Financial Performance and Viability

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the CCBA, including submission to the Board of Directors for a proposed annual budget and quarterly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. Works closely with the CCBA Finance Committee as well as the CCBA third party accounting firm.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the organization in a favorable financial position.
  • Responsible for identifying and presenting to the board areas of opportunity for raising additional funds and revenue growth.

 

4)      Membership Engagement

  • Oversee membership benefit programs, member communications, industry trend data analysis, and membership growth.
  • Responsible for managing the membership database and invoicing process, developing effective communication strategies to attract potential new members, innovating and creating new membership benefits, and overseeing industry data sets and distribution lists for internal and external use.
  • Membership outreach to encompass all voting and non-voting members, including but not limited to craft brewers, allied trade, and others.


5)      Legislative and Government Affairs

  • Support the legislative priorities by maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, such as the Legislature, the Governor's Office, the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, other state departments, and key industry organizations.
  • Responsible for supporting and working closely with the CCBA’s lobbyist to educate and inform policymakers about the craft brewing industry's economic impact and positive attributes.
  • Has an understanding of tied-house and ABC laws and regulations to assist in identifying potential risks and opportunities as they pertain to craft beer.


Specific Job Duties:

  • Reports to and works closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions and fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization
  • Oversee Board and committee meetings
  • Engage in fundraising and developing other revenue streams and opportunities
  • Manage, grow, and retain the CCBA membership
  • Supervise, collaborate, and motivate association and contract staff
  • Planning and operation of annual budget
  • Serve as CCBA’s primary spokesperson to the association membership, industry stakeholders, media, and the public
  • Travel as necessary to support various conferences, legislative hearings, and other events as needed to support the CCBA
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to enhance CCBA’s mission strategically
  • Review and approve contracts for services, signing all contracts, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on behalf of the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years related experience, preferably in the alcohol beverage industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be 21+ years of age.
  • Experience with budgeting process and management of finances.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. 
  • Experience with QuickBooks, MailChimp, WordPress, or similar software programs is preferred.

Typical Physical Demands

While performing assigned duties, the Executive Director may be required to perform tasks that require driving, bending/stooping, carrying/lifting to 20 lbs., climbing, reaching/twisting, kneeling, manual dexterity (grasp/handle/keyboarding), pushing/pulling, prolonged standing/sitting, frequent walking. The employee is expected to use natural or assisted hearing and vision and be able to speak clearly to the public, staff, supervisor(s), and other stakeholders, either in person or over the telephone. A day-to-day expectation is the ability to concentrate and discern written or verbal instructions, directives in reaching logical conclusions, foreseeing possible obstacles, and determining alternative methods of handling tasks.
