Position: Program Associate – Women’s Equality Program
Reports to: Two Program Officers in the Women’s Equality Program
Location: Washington, D.C.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Women’s Equality Program seeks to ensure that women are empowered and have equal opportunities and includes a focus on women’s health and reproductive rights in the United States and globally. The Program Associate will provide programmatic and administrative support for two regional sub-programs within the Women’s Equality Program. They will report to the Program Officer for each sub-program and work collaboratively with all Foundation staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Support
- Perform independent and in-depth research on policy issues, government programs, social and economic data, and other topics;
- Monitor, track, and analyze policy developments;
- Support and collaborate with partners, thought leaders, and other organizations committed to women’s equality;
- Develop and draft research reports, summary memoranda, strategy papers, and other written products;
- Compile and maintain data, summary charts and spreadsheets.
Grant Support
- Prepare and review grant financials, budgets, and work plans with minimal direction;
- Review and evaluate grant proposals and grant reports to ensure documentation is complete and accurate;
- Draft and edit routine correspondence and memoranda, send standard letters to grant applicants, ensure that grant documentation, supporting documentation, and docket memoranda are timely and in proper order;
- Conduct in-depth evaluations of current and potential grantees;
- Attend and organize meetings of grantees.
Administrative Support
- Coordinate with the grants management team on tasks including inputting data into grants tracking software system, producing reports, processing and tracking contracts and grant payment requests for program initiatives, and following up with grantees on overdue reports;
- Assist in all office administrative tasks including logistics relating to Board meetings, Foundation events and workshops; preparation of Board Books and materials; organizing phone or video links; planning conference events; and updating the Foundation website;
- Maintain and update working files and databases as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university;
- 2 – 4 years relevant employment experience;
- Background in advocacy or policy in the women’s equality field or an aligned social justice field;
- Nonprofit, philanthropy, or foundation experience.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Ability to communicate in written and spoken English and Spanish;
- Ability to write concisely, cogently, and with excellent grammar;
- High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently;
- Strong attention to detail;
- An analytical mind and an ability to read and digest information quickly;
- Superior listening and communication skills;
- Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software quickly;
- Willingness to accept changes in priorities and meet deadlines;
- Discretion, sound judgement and an ability to handle confidential issues;
- Flexibility and willingness to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks and projects and ability to prioritize tasks;
- Ability to work as part of a team;
- Pleasant attitude and a service-oriented approach.
This position will also be responsible for other duties as required to support Foundation goals. It is anticipated that over time the general and specific responsibilities are likely to change as the Foundation’s activities and priorities change.
Compensation for this position is $65,000 – $80,000 and is commensurate with experience. The Wyss Foundation’s benefits for full-time employees currently include access to an employer-subsidized PPO health care plan offered through CareFirst BlueCross Blue Shield, access to employee-sponsored dental and vision plans, and a 401K retirement plan with an employer match of eligible contributions.
