The Strategic Communications Specialist will support NA-11’s Executive Director and Director of Strategic Studies with a variety of organization management functions including those related to Congressional, Intergovernmental, and Public Affairs, Nuclear Weapons Council, directives, U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and Inspector General audits, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The candidate will collaborate with NA-11’s senior leaders and subject matter experts.

The Strategic Communications Specialist position requires a dedicated individual with strong initiative and creativity, a strong interest in government affairs with prior experience working at another executive branch agency/department, on Capitol Hill, at a non-governmental organization (NGO), or at NNSA.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and develop directives and policies
  • Facilitate congressional, intergovernmental, and Nuclear Weapons Council actions and develop strategic communications with help from subject matter experts
  • Facilitate Public Affairs actions and develop content including press releases and web articles
  • Analyze GAO and Inspector General audit actions
  • Coordinate and develop briefings and reports
  • Conduct research on government policies, orders, and legislation
  • Develop standard operating procedures
  • Assess, recommend, and help implement organizational process improvements
  • Develop FOIA responses
  • Maintain internal tracking log and data for actions
  • Review and summarize technical and programmatic documents
  • Lead and support NA-11 organization management actions
  • Manage and implement tactical day-to-day logistics, scheduling, correspondence, and other actions
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College Bachelor of Arts degree with major or specialization in related field
  • Experience supporting congressional or federal government programs
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Outstanding team player able to work with a diverse group of people stationed in different geographic locations
  • Hard worker that shows initiative
  • Works well with short turnaround deadlines in fast paced office environment and is adaptable to changing priorities
  • Display a talent for leadership
  • Have ambition and possess the drive the help the U.S. government
  • Minimum two years of related experience
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office tools and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working on Capitol Hill, with an executive branch agency, or non-governmental organization (NGO)
  • Master’s Degree in political science, economics, history, or English
  • Familiarity with NNSA Management and Operations (M&O) model

Location:

  • Washington DC/National Capital Region
  • Hybrid work schedule with 2-3 required in office days at the U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters (Forrestal Building)

Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate’s related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
