Job Title: Canvass Director

Location: New York State Senate District 55 (particularly Rochester, NY)

Start Date: October 5th, 2024

End Date: November 5th, 2024

Compensation: $5,000 - $6,000 per month


Job Summary:

The Canvass Director will lead the planning and execution of grassroots field operations in New York Senate District 55. In this role, you will oversee the daily canvassing program, directly managing a team of canvassers. Your efforts will be key in mobilizing voters and driving the campaign’s message through direct voter contact. You will be responsible for hiring and training canvassing staff, coordinating all field logistics, and ensuring that voter outreach goals are met.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage daily canvassing operations, ensuring voter contact goals are met.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of paid canvassers to maximize voter engagement and mobilization efforts.
  • Develop and implement canvassing strategies tailored to the district’s unique dynamics.
  • Coordinate logistics for canvassing activities, including scheduling, transportation, and ensuring canvassers have the necessary materials.
  • Monitor canvasser performance, track field metrics, and report results to senior campaign leadership.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and reporting of voter contact outcomes in VAN/Votebuilder.
  • Troubleshoot issues in the field and provide on-the-ground support to canvassers as needed.
  • Represent the campaign in a positive and professional manner in all voter interactions.


Requirements and Essential Skills:

  • At least two years of experience in political campaign field operations, particularly in managing canvassing programs.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced campaign environment.
  • Strong understanding of grassroots organizing, voter contact strategies, and familiarity with the VAN/Votebuilder system.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a focus on team management and problem-solving.
  • Flexibility to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel regularly within the district and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
