Policy Data Analyst – Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for a Policy Data Analyst (Research Specialist I) to work in the Policy Division.

The salary is $4,000.00 - $4,666.67 a month ($48,000.00 - $56,000.04 a year).

What You’ll Do

This is a job that performs routine (journey-level) policy research, analyses, and writing as needed to support and disseminate the Governor’s statewide agenda. Works on a variety of policy issues with a focus on public education. Performs all related duties as assigned and demonstrates sustained understanding and commitment to the Governor’s philosophy. Remains on-call, including on short notice and in crises, during legislative sessions, nights, weekends, and holidays for all related business matters relating to the work of the division.

  • Supports the Governor’s Advisor charged with K-12 education policy by conducting research and analyzing education-related legislation, regulations, programs, and related budgetary materials.
  • Assists Governor’s Advisors in program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Assists in the preparation of administrative regulations, legislation, and specialized research projects.
  • Engages community and professional groups through constituent and stakeholder meetings.
  • Actively contributes to the development and advancement of the Governor’s policy priorities, working in coordination within the Governor’s executive staff, press office, appointments staff, and legislative staff, as well as with legislative offices and state agencies.

How You’ll Qualify

  • Graduation from high school; and
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in public policy research, legislative affairs, public sector budget analysis, or the collection and analysis of quantitative or qualitative data.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • At least one (1) year experience working in the legislative process, and/or conducting public policy research and analysis; and
  • A basic understanding of, and interest in, K-12 education policy.
