Organization Description

Mission Economic Development Agency - Building on its 48-year history, and rooted in San Francisco’s Mission District, MEDA is advancing a national equity movement by building Latino prosperity, community ownership and civic power. Our direct service programs serve 8,000 individuals each year through rental and homeownership counseling, small business development, digital literacy, workforce development, financial education and free tax preparation. We also devote resources to research and evaluation, community organizing and advocacy. In the process, MEDA is helping to develop best practices in the field, and shares its model across the state and country.

MEDA is the lead backbone agency for the Mission Promise Neighborhood (www.missionpromise.org), a neighborhood based effort to improve education and create family economic stability for Mission District families through a cradle- to college- to career continuum of services. MEDA recently launched two new programs- Community Real Estate development and a federally certified CDFI, Fondo Adelante, to further respond to the needs of the community it serves. 


Position Description

The Development Officer is part of a six-person Development and Communications team, leading or supporting on responsibilities that may include but are not limited to: assisting, supporting or leading in researching, writing, and monitoring grants; preparing Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) and grant reports; managing fundraising systems and MEDA’s funder database; soliciting donation appeals, mailings and sponsorship requests; and supporting the planning and coordination of key events. The Development Officer is a strong project manager, writer, relationship builder, and strategic thinker who is passionate about MEDA’s mission to support the Latino community in the SF Mission District. This position is supported by a strong development team and able to work and learn from seasoned professionals in the nonprofit field. This position requires working in MEDA’s San Francisco office the majority of the time.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist and/or lead in the preparation of funding proposals reports for government, corporate and foundation grants, including coordinating proposal components with evaluation, programs and finance departments.
  • Lead in the preparation and submission of funder reports, including in-depth collaboration with MEDA’s programs and work teams to track and evaluate performance on grant outcomes and objectives.
  • Research and identify corporate, foundation and government funding opportunities.
  • Manage and maintain Development’s Salesforce database for grant, gift, donor and funder records.
  • Manage and support Development systems, including processing gift and grant awards, supporting revenue reconciliation, and managing grant and report calendars.
  • Assist in the coordination of funder meetings, communications and correspondence.
  • Develop customized presentations and approaches, based on agreed areas of interest and in-line with MEDA's programming priorities.
  • Support and contribute to the coordination and logistical duties of virtual and in-person events, including MEDA’s Annual Gala.
  • Assist with MEDA’s annual individual donor campaigns and appeals.
  • Maintain communication with foundation, corporate and government representatives including but not limited to the distribution of regular publications, invitations to observe programming, and other updates.
  • Contribute to annual fundraising objectives and strategies.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required, with advanced degree work welcome.
  • Three to five years of work experience in direct fundraising for a non profit organization with measurable goals
  • Proficiency with fund development and/or CRM databases; proficiency with the Salesforce CRM database platform highly desired.
  • Excellent writing skills, with a strong attention to detail. Experience with grant and report writing is preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, and develop and execute complex presentations.
  • Ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill and present information.
  • Experience with planning and coordinating events.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment while working to meet multiple deadlines. Strong organization and time management skills are a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community development, housing, education, and or other core areas of MEDA’s work is a significant plus.
  • Ability to work both independently with limited direction, and also collaboratively as a team player.
  • Experience with Canva, InDesign or other graphics programs is a plus.
