United States Senator Ron Wyden seeks a motivated individual to work with a dedicated team and numerous partner organizations to improve the lives of Oregonians. The Senator is hiring an Eastern Oregon Field Representative based out of eastern Oregon. Location TBD.

The Field Representative serves as the Senator's liaison to eastern Oregon constituents and acts as liaison between Senator Wyden's office and eastern Oregon cities, counties, regional, and legislative governments; institutions of higher education, community colleges, and school districts; as well as community and constituency groups and organizations, local businesses, etc.

Ideal candidates will have relationships with key elected and community leaders, and other key stakeholders in eastern Oregon, and will be familiar with issues important to the region. The candidates will also have an understanding and appreciation for the varied needs and challenges facing eastern Oregon. Experience working in government or community organizing is preferred. Candidates should have excellent writing skills, public speaking experience, and exhibit exemplary organizational ability.

Duties of this role include but are not limited to attending meetings and events around the region (in person and by Zoom), on the Senator's behalf, planning events and town hall meetings, conveying the Senator's policy positions to community groups, elected officials, and constituents, developing and maintaining relationships with the full spectrum of community leaders in the region, drafting letters and memos on the Senator's behalf, traveling with and staffing the Senator within the region, and advising the Senator and staff on regional issues and projects.

  • Keen listening skills, a customer-service orientation, and the ability to communicate on a variety of topics in a professional manner
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse communities in every nook and cranny of eastern Oregon
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and to work independently
  • Sound political judgment
  • Ability to quickly acquire and master technical skills in an evolving office environment
  • Experience planning events
  • Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus
  • This position requires extensive travel within the state of Oregon and a valid driver's license
