POSITION

The Communications Associate will support the Communications Manager to develop and maintain communications resources to build awareness and promote the mission and goals of National Housing Trust (NHT). In addition, the Communications Associate will support other NHT teams, as needed and under the direction of the Communications Manager.

This position requires a strong attention to detail, a positive attitude, a collaborative spirit, and an innovative perspective. The ideal candidate is creative, resourceful, and versatile.

This position is DC-based and qualifies for a hybrid work schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications activities responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Website and Social Media

  • Manage NHT website page updates or corrections. Complete requests for changes submitted via our Website Request Form.
  • Create and post content to NHT website including new pages and news posts (NHT Updates) as requested.
  • Coordinate with website developers to fix technical issues with the website.
  • Create and post to NHT’s social media channels, including LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook and future additional channels.
  • Monitor performance metrics and create reports for follower growth, views and engagement.
  • Identify and amplify peer organizations and entities most aligned with NHT interests to boost social media reach and engagement.

Brand Management and Document Stewardship

  • Maintain portfolio of branded document templates for letterhead, PPTs, report layouts and more. Make adjustments and improvements to existing portfolio and add new documents as needed.
  • Maintain and enhance the Communications channel on Microsoft Teams which contains our branded materials, marketing collateral, and our photo library.
  • Support HR and the Communications Manager to position NHT staff as effective brand managers by completing activities requested for new staff when they join NHT (staff photos, bio).

Content Creation

  • Support the implementation of regular email communications via Mailchimp, including the monthly NHT newsletter.
  • Design and complete layout for newsletters, including selecting appropriate imagery.
  • Maintain the email subscriber contact list.
  • Create surveys, forms and landing pages as needed for email campaigns.
  • Support creation of blogs, articles, reports, short-form videos and other outward-facing communications resources as needed to promote NHT efforts.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and both verbal and written communications skills;
  • Resourcefulness, with the ability to deliver results;
  • Collaborative spirit and positive attitude (a good sense of humor is a plus);
  • Demonstrated creative aptitude across various forms of media (print, online, video, etc)
  • Experience using graphic design tools such as Adobe PhotoShop, Indesign, or Canva
  • Experience using email marketing tools such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact
  • Experience creating content for the web and/or social media
  • The ability to flex and adapt to new technologies or skills and quickly apply them to getting the job done

COMPENSATION

This is a part-time position and does not qualify for benefits. The minimum, median, and maximum hourly rate for this position is $18, $24, and $30, respectively.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $45,751.71 - $55,098.83 per year

Expected hours: No more than 29.5 per week
