Job Description
POLITICO is seeking an enterprising and high-energy reporter to join our Politics team, covering politics at every level. The reporter will join a team covering the biggest political storylines of the day – both nationally and in the states – as our politics shifts to a Republican-controlled Washington.
We’re looking for a reporter to write authoritative and agenda-setting stories on the characters, trends and policies shaping politics now and in the run-up to the midterm elections and 2028. This reporter should approach each day ready to tackle the creative challenge of covering the political moment, exploring new methods of storytelling and offering up fresh ideas.
We seek a lively writer eager to break news and narrate the moment, while also drawing threads between the White House, Congress and the states to identify emerging storylines before our competitors.
The job requires deep knowledge and sourcing on the national political scene, familiarity with political developments in key states, and the ability to see emerging political trends. A love of politics is a must; command of the political landscape and the forces shaping it — including demographics, presidential politics, fundraising, polling, advertising, social media and internal party dynamics — is a necessity. We’re looking for a tenacious reporter who knows how to work a beat and break news, but also has the analytical and storytelling skills to tell the broader story.
Please submit a resume, cover letter and 4-6 clips with your application.
