Job Description
The Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Manager of Federal Government Relations (MFGR) to support the organization’s federal advocacy efforts. With the oversight of senior policy staff, the MFGR will be responsible for conducting research, tracking legislative and regulatory developments, engaging with policymakers, and coordinating lobbying activities. The candidate will work closely with the broader Advocacy, Safety and Sustainability teams to ensure that ReMA’s federal lobbying efforts are strategic, effective, and impactful.
The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of progressive experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field. They should be a strong communicator, capable of analyzing complex policy issues and assisting in the development of advocacy strategies.

ReMA staff have the flexibility to work from home for as many as three days per week and in our vibrant office a minimum of two days per week. In-office days are determined by your supervisor and are subject to change based on the needs of the Association. We are a dynamic and diverse team that values your unique contributions.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitors and analyzes federal legislative and regulatory initiatives that affect the recycled materials industry and identifies the policy implications of federal actions on the industry, with guidance and supervision from senior policy staff.
- Develops relationships with stakeholders and represents ReMA at briefings, hearings, coalition meetings, seminars, and other meetings along with senior policy staff or at the direction of senior policy staff.
- Conveys detailed policy information in a clear and concise manner at the direction of senior policy staff, in a variety of manners -written publications such as blogs, white papers, briefs, and other memos.
- Assists in drafting testimony, comments on regulations, letters to Congress, and other correspondence related to federal policy action which is both directed and reviewed by senior policy staff
- Supports senior policy staff with engagement of and building of relationships with congressional offices, federal agencies, and industry coalitions.
- Assists in organizing and preparing for lobbying meetings, fly-ins, and other advocacy events at the direction of senior staff.
- Supports the development of advocacy materials, presentations, trainings, and reports.
- Engages with ReMA’s communications, membership, and broader advocacy, safety and sustainability teams to amplify policy priorities and messaging.
- Provides administrative support as directed for the maintenance of internal and external documents, public-facing webpages, and other related items.

Preferred Education and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant work experience with the recycled materials industry, government, public policy, government relations, or other related field.
- Broad knowledge of tax and trade policy, environmental regulation, or sustainability issues is preferred.
- Familiarity with grassroots advocacy and coalition building.
- Willingness to learn and improve upon their existing skillset in the government relations and public policy arena.
- Ability to communicate information, in writing and verbally, in a clear and credible way to a variety of audiences.
- Should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with policymakers and staff, as well as with external organizations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, ability to work under deadline pressure, and adapt to changes in workload.
- Ability to work in a politically neutral manner and maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information when required.
- Ability to travel by air, with most trips being 1-3 nights, as well as work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, usually associated with events and travel.
Working Conditions
- Salary range for this position is between $70k - $85k.
- Some travel will be required (10-15%)
- This position operates in a professional office environment. It requires the routine use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers. The role may occasionally involve extended periods of sitting or standing and minor physical tasks such as lifting objects up to forty pounds.
