West Hill is in search of a Visionary & Inspirational Leader. Embark on a transformative

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Visionary & Inspirational Leader will:

➢ Be responsible for weekly WHU gatherings, including the themed presentations.

➢ Ensure alignment of programming with WHU’s Strategic Plan, Mission and Values.

➢ Grow the community with an eye to diversity, global access and participation.

➢ Act as the Community & Team Lead directing and overseeing staff and volunteers.

➢ Be the Public ambassador for West Hill.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Visionary Leadership

➢  Host the weekly Sunday interactive gathering (in person or remotely).

➢  Ensure that the weekly hybrid Sunday gathering is broadcast.

➢  Deliver “themed talks” on two or three Sundays of each month and source presenters for the remaining Sundays.

➢  Co-lead the gathering with staff (administration, music, production, finance) and volunteers.

Inspirational Leadership

➢  Develop, organize and coordinate inspirational learning opportunities (sourcing facilitators as required), in alignment with community requests and interests.

➢  Mobilize the community to reflect on and respond to social, cultural, and world issues.

➢  Develop connections with other values-based communities and organizations.

➢  Create and facilitate plans to broaden diversity within our membership.

➢  Build personal relationships with individuals and families in the WHU community.

➢  Work collaboratively to foster good relationships with staff and volunteers; build strong teams that enable West Hill to achieve its goals.

➢  Manage volunteer opportunities by matching time, talent and skills of volunteers with available roles, ensuring training and adhering to Duty of Care responsibilities.

➢  Coordinate with staff and Directors to promote and sustain a culture of good governance in all community activities.

➢  Offer guidance/support to members wishing to establish satellite communities.

➢  Work with Communication and Marketing team to ensure a social media presence

aligned with West Hill’s inspirational messaging and program offerings.

Operational leadership

➢  Stewardship: Together with the Finance Committee and West Hill Board, develop and evaluate programs and events that contribute to financial sustainability.

➢  Ex officio on most committees; communicating regularly with team leaders.

➢  Attend and support WHU Board meetings.

➢  Supervise staff: set goals and priorities, manage obstacles and conflict, provide feedback and performance reviews.

➢  While care concerns are not a direct responsibility, the Visionary & Inspirational Leader will be sensitive to these and refer them to the Care & Connection Coordinator for follow up.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Visionary and Inspirational Leader will report to and be accountable to the elected WHU Board of Directors and will work in partnership with other WHU staff and volunteers in pursuit of our goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS

➢  Location: Able to attend weekly gatherings via Zoom (or in person). Able to work remotely.

➢  Hours of work: 25 hours/week.

➢  Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

➢  Demonstrates excellence in spoken and written communication skills.

➢  Demonstrates skill in combining empathy, humour, storytelling and personal experience, with current research to create meaningful themed talks.

➢  Encourages interaction with participants and is able to steer the flow of gatherings.

➢  Excellent relationship builder with the ability to work collaboratively - demonstrates both passion and compassion.

➢  Demonstrates a passion for social justice and the promotion of community well-being.

➢  Expertise in developing and leading inspirational and educational programs.

➢  Experienced in staff management and team leadership.

➢  Competence in stewardship, budgeting and financial matters would be an asset.

➢  Change management experience would be an asset.
