What To Expect

This position is expected to start January 2025 and continue through the entire Spring 2025 term (through April/May 2025). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks at 40 hours per week, for this internship.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. Again, please do not apply until you know you can work 40 hours per week. This is required for external applicants. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

We provide an experience that allows for the intern to experience life at Tesla by giving them projects that are critical to their team’s success.

What You'll Do
This internship will provide opportunities to work with the EV Charging and Energy Public Policy & Business Development Team on policy and business development, market analysis, and strategic engagement at the state and local level. You will be part of a team responsible for creating and implementing the company’s electric vehicle charging and energy regulatory and legislative strategies. This includes work on utility programs, equipment standards, permitting and local codes, fleet electrification, and medium-and-heavy duty charging, with an opportunity to learn and grow, working across the team to support its full range of efforts.
  • Support the policy team by summarizing and analyzing regulatory filings, developing briefings, researching legislation, and managing complex, cross-functional projects
  • Assist with the development of new policy and business initiatives
  • Opportunity to develop capstone project on priority charging or energy policy issue
  • Work with internal teams to get cross-functional input, and advise on public policy developments
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to amplify public policy prioriities


  • What You'll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in relevant field such as Political Science, Public Policy, Technology Policy, International Studies, or related fields with a focus on energy and sustainability
  • Direct EV charging or energy policy experience within government and/or relevant nonprofits, public interest groups or industry associations is preferred
  • Experience and understanding of the federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory process from prior work and academic experience
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with experience successfully managing multiple complex, cross-functional projects simultaneously
  • Able to make a 6-month commitment at minimum
  • High level research and writing abilities

  • Expected Compensation

    $24.00 - $32.00/hour, depending on level + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
