TITLE: Director of Communications DATE: 2/23/25
BASIC OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for supporting the mission and goals set out by the leaders of the Union through the implementation of aggressive and dynamic communications, both externally and internally.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in collaboration with officers, managers and staff to develop and implement UTD’s strategic plans;
- Coordinate with other members of the UTD management team to provide communications support for their department’s efforts;
- Supervision of department staff working in communications, economic benefits, and events planning and execution as well as the switch board operator/receptionist;
- Interact with media and community representatives on behalf of UTD to build the union’s presence in the community and to communicate and build support for UTD’s positions on issues as well as its overall message;
- Generate and refine daily communications, as well as special communications regarding negotiations and legislative activities, to members and the community through all means available to the union;
- Ability to generate content for weekly newsletter and school-site Public Address system announcement;
- Coordinate the production of regular reports and print materials for the monthly Council of Building Stewards meeting;
- Supervise the production and quality control of all print materials as well as maintenance of organization website;
- Provide research support to leadership for interaction with traditional print, television, radio, and elected officials;
- Produce topics and outline for weekly 30-minute radio program;
- Ability to use various software applications and platforms such as MailChimp, Hustle, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Venngage, Final Cut, or similar.
In addition to the above responsibilities, flexible hours may be required to meet the responsibilities of this position. A valid Florida driver’s license is required as well as clearance to enter school sites under the Jessica Lunsford act.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field
- Five years of related experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook as well as Internet applications
- Problem solving skills
- Excellent organization and communication skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is moderately physical work which requires the following physical activities: bending, stooping, crouching, lifting, twisting, finger dexterity, repetitive motions reaching, sitting, standing, walking, driving, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. This work is indoors and outdoors. Frequent travel within the county is required.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
